Degree and Minimum GPA
  • A bachelor’s degree in any academic background from an accredited college or university
  • A GPA of at least 3.0. If your GPA is below 3.0, you should still apply, as we take your strengths and skills in other areas into account.
TranscriptsWhile completing your online application, you will be required to submit one unofficial scanned copy of your transcript or academic record from each school you have attended where you have:
  • earned (or will earn) a degree,
  • studied for one semester or more,
  • earned 12 or more hours of credit, or
  • took classes that relate to your graduate study interests.
If an offer of admission is made, UD graduate students must provide their official, final transcripts before the first day of graduate-level classes.
RésuméA résumé or curriculum vitae that documents your prior work experience, publications, honors and awards received and a summary of your educational credentials.
Personal StatementWe are looking for an insightful, specific and brief essay on the following prompts.
  • Outline your educational plans and career goals and discuss how your proposed plan of graduate study relates to them. What are the specific attributes of the program at UD that lead you to believe that this degree is appropriate to help you achieve your professional objectives? Within the area of study you have selected, are there areas of special interest to you?
Letters of RecommendationThree letters of recommendation from professional references. You can also submit recommendations from professors who can speak on your academic and professional motivations and potential.

International Students

The University of Delaware is an ideal place for a great education in a global atmosphere. As an international student, you’ll join fellow students from over 100 countries. Nearly 30% of all the University’s graduate students are international.

If you are an international applicant, you’ll also need to submit one of the following:

English Language Proficiency
  1. Proof of having earned a degree in either the United State or a country where the primary language is English,
  2. a TOEFL* score of 100 or higher, or
  3. an IELTS* score of 7.5 or higher.
The Graduate & Professional Education office provides more detailed TOEFL information on its test scores page.

*If the TOEFL/IELTS score is too low or if the applicant has not taken the TOEFL/IELTS, the applicant can enroll in the UD English Language Institute’s ELI-CAP program. Successful completion of the ELI-CAP program means the TOEFL/IELTS requirement is waived. The length of time required depends on the applicant’s English skills when entering the program.

Transfer Credit

You can transfer up to nine credits from an accredited college or university into the online Master of Arts in Strategic Communication. Graduate credits earned at another institution (but not used in the completion of another graduate degree) will be evaluated at your written request for any course.

When to Apply
