Online Electrical and Computer Engineering Master's Degree: Admissions

We encourage applicants seeking an application fee waiver to begin an online application and complete as much as possible without submitting payment. You may contact the graduate director of the program to which you’re applying here and send a request with your 9-digit application ID — departments may be able to pay the application fee for you.

Degree and Minimum GPA
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or a related discipline
  • A GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
TranscriptsWhile completing your online application, you will be required to submit one unofficial scanned copy of your transcript or academic record from each school you have attended where you have:
  • earned (or will earn) a degree,
  • studied for one semester or more,
  • earned 12 or more hours of credit, or
  • took classes that relate to your graduate study interests.
If an offer of admission is made, UD graduate students must provide their official, final transcripts before the first day of graduate-level classes.
Official GRE ScoreThe following scores are competitive:
  • A minimum Quantitative score of 150 and a minimum Verbal, Qualitative score of 150

RésuméA résumé or curriculum vitae that documents your prior work experience, publications, honors and awards received and a summary of your educational credentials.
Statement of PurposeA personal statement or essay addressing the professional and academic achievements that will help you succeed in computer engineering careers. Your personal statement should answer these questions:
  • Why do you wish to pursue your graduate studies at the University of Delaware? What, in your opinion, makes UD special?
  • What are your career objectives and how will an electrical and computer engineering master’s degree help you achieve your goals?
Letters of RecommendationThree letters of recommendation. Recommendation forms are emailed directly from the online application to the recommenders whose names and email addresses you provide. Instructions for returning the completed forms are included in the emails.

International Students

The University of Delaware is an ideal place for a great education in a global atmosphere. Nearly 30% of all the University’s graduate students are international and are from over 100 countries. If you are an international applicant, you’ll also need to submit:

English Language ProficiencyAs an international applicant, you must demonstrate your ability to communicate in English by doing one of the following:
  1. submit a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (Internet-based), or
  2. submit an IELTS score of 6.5 and no individual sub-scores below 6.0.

Transfer Credit

The online electrical and computer engineering master’s degree program accepts up to nine transfer credits with the approval of the program director. For more information about transferring your prior credits, contact a helpful admissions counselor at (844) 237-1338.

When to Apply

Applications are accepted at any time up until a week before classes begin, and you may begin in the fall, summer or spring semesters. Applicants are considered for admission on a rolling basis.

Note: Full-time program applicants interested in merit-based funding consideration should apply early as those awards are distributed on a rolling basis typically at or close to the time of admission.

Note: Your application can be submitted before taking the GRE. Indicate on your application the scheduled date of the GRE exam. However, late exam submission will delay application processing and the admission decision.
